I found this book to be very insightful. If you have no Insurance experience, this book really opens the door and captures the essence of the industry, enabling you to make an informative decision on this Career. If you have some Insurance experience, this book really puts things in perspective and really opens up your knowledge of being a Business Owner in the Insurance Industry. This book is a really great read and reference guide if you are planning on having a Successful Career in the Insurance Industry. Great Insurance Agency Hand Guide, October 21, 2010

I found Jeff’s book to be an excellent tool to a new career. I was in the Retail Business for 32 years. I knew I wanted to start my own business but was afraid to leave my comfort zone. I was told by my sister to try the Insurance industry and was also given the advice to read Jeff Hastings book. When I started reading the book it really got my attention when I read the words of the infamous speech “I Have a Dream” by Dr. Martin Luther King. It made me realize that with hard work anything is possible. Jeff’s book has really helped me to understand the importance of developing a model, setting goals, creating action plans, and putting processes into place. After reading Jeff’s book I decided to start a new career as an agent over two years ago. To this day I still use Jeff’s book as a guide to help run my business. The reason I am writing this review is because of the unfair review written by someone else referring to the author's choice to borrow start up money. The purpose of this book is not to promote borrowing funds to start a business. I use the book to counsel clients who are considering a career change into the insurance field. It discusses important topics such as agency ownership versus being an employee, compares different company contracts, product selection, etc. Proper education and evaluation can greatly reduce career change anxiety and minimize down side risk. This book, whether you choose to borrow start-up funds or not, will give you the info needed to make a confident career choice. Since 80% of new businesses fail in two years and many borrow money to start their business it is not a "given" that this author's choice to borrow money make his success easier...only more risky! As a career counselor therapist I greatly value this book. The reason I am writing this review is because of the unfair review written by someone else referring to the author’s choice to borrow start up money. The purpose of this book is not to promote borrowing funds to start a business. I use the book to counsel clients who are considering a career change into the insurance field. It discusses important topics such as agency ownership versus being an employee, compares different company contracts, product selection, etc. Proper education and evaluation can greatly reduce career change anxiety and minimize down side risk. This book, whether you choose to borrow start-up funds or not, will give you the info needed to make a confident career choice. Since 80% of new businesses fail in two years and many borrow money to start their business it is not a “given” that this author’s choice to borrow money make his success easier…only more risky! Minimize your risk if you are considering a career choice into the insurance field and read this book!

This book is worth its weight in gold. I originally picked it up while doing research on life insurance options. But after reading the first chapter on auto insurance, we called our agent, raised our libability limits and deductibles, got rid of unnecessary coverage and ended up saving ourselves $250 a year! The author, who has worked in the insurance industry for years, makes things plain and simple and illustrates his points with easy-to-understand charts. Now I feel like we actually have a clue about what we’re buying, and I feel much more secure knowing we’ll likely be well covered in the event of a catastrophe. This should be on every homeowner’s bookshelf.

Before reading this book, I didn't even know the difference between collision, liability, and comprehensive insurance; and I had no clue how much insurance I should carry for that "break glass in case of emergency" type accident. And like all of the dummy books, the text is informative while remaining engaging , and actually entertaining-even though the subject is insurance. <br/><br/>I actually feel empowered after reading this book. I know I’m getting older when I start reading and writing reviews about insurance books.

I’m not a big fan of the “dummies” books for a few reasons: (1) First my ego…I have to admit I don’t want a book on my shelf that is a dummy guide for anything, and (2) I don’t want to buy another reference book that is going to sit on my shelf and collect dust.

I purchased this book b/c I had big questions about car insurance, life insurance, and umbrella policies. No concerns about house insurance, which seemed to be the biggest complaint about the book.

Quite frankly, it answered all of my questions.
