Redhill Footbridge – June 2011 – Health & Safety at Walk

health and safety

200 yards north of Redhill Station is this footbridge over the line. I walk across this most days when walking my dog. He will walk happily across this one because it has concrete steps whereas I have to pick him up and carry him if we use the one further along as it has metal steps which you can see the ground below through. Being 6 foot tall I tend not to notice this but little Button peers through the gaps of each rung anxiously before deciding he’s not going to risk it. It only adds a couple of hundred yards to the walk so I, generally, don’t mind.
The ‘Health and Safety’ reference in the title refers not to those people walking across it but to the passengers on the trains below who have the right not to expect either jumpers or bricks to land on the roof. It is amazing how the actions of a few idiots can have major influence on society as a whole.
Anyway I thought it made for an interesting image and hope you agree.

Office Health and Safety

For years, it has been a law for employers to ensure that their employees are protected from any workplace related injuries in the UK.  The laws that governed this activity are named the “work and safety work acts” this meant that the rules required that all new employees were to be trained in health and safety of their new company. Because of these procedures a new person has the benefit of getting to know the facility and knowing how they could get out of the building in case of emergencies. They were also taught some basic things to do in case of emergencies.

Nowadays, even more emphasis is placed on health and safety. Because every year statistics show that many more employees are getting hurt on the job and the averages show that a high number of people are losing their lives to illnesses or injuries that happen on the job as a result of some accident. This is why the UK and owners of companies have developed prevention measures to ensure that these problems are eliminated.

Managers and supervisors of offices must take extra precautions and pay special attention to health and safety procedures in order to control the possibility of risks and any chance of hurting someone. Taking the time to ensure that health and safety procedures are followed also ensures that things that would be dangerous to employees are removed or repaired, allowing workers to work confidently knowing that the company cared enough to remove any hazards that could pose a problem.

For the most part, most owners of businesses are only too happy to do their part and ensure that their employees are safe. In fact many will host the training classes of their management and supervisory staff to be sure that they know how to properly ensure the health and safety of the company.

After ensuring that management and supervisory staff are trained on health and safety policies, they will need to conduct inspections to ensure that the company meets expectations, and then you will need to teach your employees to follow these directions and implement these safety procedures. Even though having information is a great idea, nothing beats hands on training to ensure that the health and safety procedures are carried out.

It’s worth bearing that in mind in general. Give it five centuries or so and it won’t be where you left it…

I received this as a gift. I love the storage bag it comes with. And good to know I have all these items when they are needed. The nail clippers are so much better than the other 2 pairs of baby clippers I owned before getting this. They are easy to hold and use. I have used and like the hairbrush too. I haven’t used the nose bulb yet because I already had one from the hospital. The medicine dispenser with the nipple looks like a good idea but haven’t used it either yet because my baby doesn’t like bottles yet and hasn’t needed meds. I am glad it has a baby toothbrush that will come in handy later on. I am glad I received this item.
